Brand Wars - Conducted at
Rai Business School Chennai, was undertaken
with the objective of creating a virtual market for
the students where they can launch their product,
compete in the market place, create a brand and do
an extension also for the product line or for the
brand, with the motive of achieving the objective
of the organization.
Industry Specialists were brought in to give an
insight about the industry. Students of Second Year
MBA was divided into four teams and product/service
were allocated, 2 teams to deal with Radio - FM
and another two teams to deal with DTH. Sr. Faculty
members - Mrs Anandhi, Mrs Vinitha and Dr.Bhagyalakshmi
and Marketing Head Mr. T V Moorthy were made in
charge of each team to guide the students. Just
the products were given to the students and the
responsibility was to create a brand, a strong brand.
The positioning had to be taken care, customer perception
had to be understood, and segmentation and targeting
has to be undertaken carefully.
Each day's marketing activities were evaluated
by industry experts who gave critical and motivating
comments on the ideas and the presentations. Maximum
utilization of the resources available was also
one of the criteria for evaluation. The activities
were also evaluated by a "Customer Group"
to whom the positioning and branding activities
were directed. Due importance was also given to
the activities pertaining to fulfilling the Company
Social Responsibilities, which was also evaluated.
Activity for each day of the War which lasted for
six days was charted out in detail so that the competition
can be conducted in a professional manner. The competition
involved launch of the product and introduction
of top management to the stake holders, marketing
of the product with the help of print and electronic
media on one day and without these medium on the
next day, extension of the product, social responsibility
and a final presentation which included the presentation
on all the activities which they have conducted
on the previous days.
Tough competition prevailed among students and each
day's activities were evaluated. Prizes were distributed
on the final day of the competition, by Mrs. Asha
Mathen, VP, Deutsche Bank. Saaral FM bagged the Prize
for Best Brand Name, T2V took away the prize for Best
CSR, Spectra TV for Best Unique Idea and OUR Fm bagged
prize for Best Marketing Strategy. The most prestigious
award The Overall Winner was won by the T2V Team.
